Halloween 2010- The End Results

Alright, well Halloween has come and gone, and time for some photos! Sadly I didn't make the dress I wanted to, considering I couldn't bring myself to spending that much money on good fabric for a costume I would only end up wearing once. So instead and yet again I did a last minute costume. I must admit though for last minute it came out pretty good! Halloween 2010 will go down as the year I went as Inara Serra, Companion on the ship Serenity. Check it!

My roomie was nice enough to do my hair too, which turned out fabulous!

Anyways, in preparation for Halloween next year I have already decided what my costume will be! A group of friends (sadly we're all in different areas of the world lol) have decided we're going to dress up as Disney Princesses. My friend down in the States is going to be Aurora (aka Sleeping Beauty), my friend back home is going to be Rapunzel and I am going to be Cinderella! I so cannot wait and I have a year to make my costume *cough*no last minute*cough* I shall hopefully update more this time around... I hope...

Updates!

Well, this past weekend after coping with family news, I decided to start cutting out the muslin for my halloween costume! So I have most of the pieces cut out but sadly I ran out of plain white cotton fabric. I'm only missing the last back part to it, otherwise I had cut everything out. Tonight I sat down and pinned pieces together. I have the main parts of the dress pinned, as well as the sleeves. So far it's looking pretty good! (it would look better on a dressform rather than just hanging there...

Saturday Blog

Well, here we are, weekend is here and what have I done today? I was up at 8, which really isn't sleeping in that much for me. But all in all, I managed to shower, get a load of laundry on, prep the dishwasher for a load of dirty dishes, fed the dogs and yeah. Once my roomie was awake, I puttered around a bit more before digging out my sewing machine. As my big project for the day, I finished sewing all the squares into strips and then those strips together, thus putting the front part of the baby blanket together! Yay! So now all that needs to be done is cut out the backing and the wadding, then buy the satin blanket bindings and hand everything over to my coworker who's so graciously agreed to put the bindings on. I absolutely abhor the blanket bindings, so if I can get someone else to do it, I will! Anyways I leave you with a photo, it would be of my "work" area, aka the dining room table.

Huzzah for side projects!

Alright, so I have quiet a few side projects on the go right now. Go figure, side projects despite you know, the big one coming up lol. So, here are my various side projects at the moment.

  • Baby blanket
  • Victorian corset
  • Skirt
  • Marilyn Monroe dress (the white one)
Maybe I'll get the blanket mostly done this weekend, that way I can get it to my coworker so she can put the binding on it.

And the winner is...

So it would seem that the majority has voted for medieval as my costume theme this year. I will be starting the muslin this weekend I hope! *knocks on wood*The pattern I'm using is Butterick 3552 and I'm looking to make the darker one, in shades of blue with silver. A friend of mine, whom I shall refer to as Blue has kindly offered to make some chain mail accessories for me too! This costume is coming together very very well!
